How we teach:
Arabic Proficiency Levels
Beginner Level (А1- А2)
You will master the Arabic script, learn harfs and memorize their spellings, learn reading rules and basic grammatical topics.
At the end of the level, you will be able to read and count, understand simple adapted texts, maintain a simple dialogue based on the topics covered, understand measured speech with a known set of words.
Intermediate Level (В1 - В2)
At this level, you will continue to study basic grammar (verbs and sentences) and will fully master it by the end of the course.
You will expand your vocabulary and acquire skills in using of the Arab dictionary, as well as get acquainted with the dialects of the language.
You will be able to engage in dialogue and understand the normal pace of Arabic literary speech.
At this level, you will read texts of average difficulty and learn the Arabic script.
Advanced Level (С1- С2)
At this level, you expand your vocabulary by studying official rhetoric, abbreviations, borrowings and specific terms.
You learn to understand fast-paced speech, TV and radio broadcasts, and fluent conversation of native speakers.
Difficult texts will be offered for reading, including literary works written by Arab authors and original newspaper articles.
You will get an vision of difference between the literary language and the dialects.
You will be able to discuss any topic in a fluent manner.
Lessons for children
We use the Russian textbook "Arabic for the smallest" issued by the Astrel Publishing House.
The textbook contains about 600 words and expressions.
Depending on the student's age, the textbook may be used as a full-fledged manual or applied sporadically in accordance with child's apprehension level.
And, of course, when teaching children, we use various games, cards, learn songs, draw pictures and do everything to keep them on the edge of their seats.
Our teachers
ELENA N. DEMESHEVA (Ph.D.)
Arabic philologist, candidate of pedagogical sciences, teacher of Russian as a foreign language at the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC), Beirut, teacher of the Faculty of Philology and Humanities of the Lebanese State University, one of the founders and member of the Lebanese Society of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (LOPRYAL), qualified translator from Arabic into Russian. Twenty four years of teaching experience in Lebanon, 12 of which are taught in Lebanese universities; state - Lebanese University (LU), and private – American University of Science and Technology (AUST).
Elena studied at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), in Moscow, in the faculty of philology. There she also completed her postgraduate studies at the Department of the Russian Language and Methods of Teaching and successfully defended her thesis in 2007.
The topic of her scientific work was the comparison of phraseological units of the Russian and Arabic languages for linguo-didactic, linguo-cultural and translation purposes. This study, as well as her many years of experience in teaching Russian as a Foreign Language (RFL) in an Arab country, helped Elena to draw an important conclusion that it is precisely the reliance on the mother tongue as an intermediary language that helps Arab students overcome many difficulties in the educational process and quickly master Russian in conditions of complete separation from the linguistic and cultural environment.
She is the author of 11 scientific articles covering the issues of teaching Russian as a foreign language to Arabic-speaking audiences. These works have been published in various scientific journals and collections, including the Higher Attestation Commission and Scopus.
Elena is deeply convinced that a teacher who speaks the native language of students is not just a teacher, but a sensitive guide from the students’ world of the native language and culture to the world of the language being studied and its culture.
Currently Elena Demesheva is a teacher of the Russian language courses at the ‘SpeakAR’ online school at the ‘Job for Arabists’ agency and is happy to share her knowledge and rich experience in teaching Russian as a foreign language to Arabic students at various levels of proficiency, as well as for professional purposes.
